We have a new truck at work, a modified GMC G3500 cutaway van. The last time I drove it there was a shimmy in the steering wheel. I booked it into the dealership and they confirmed the tires are a problem. We have about 16,000km (for you US folks, about 9,450 miles). The dealership says GM won't warranty these because after 12,000km (approx. 7,450 miles) it'* considered regular maintenance and we have to pay the entire replacement cost.
Are they crazy? This is absolutely ridiculous! I told the dealership that obviously this wasn't a fight I'm going to have with them but I'm certainly going to take it up with GM directly. This is the 5th new GM truck I've ordered in the past two years. If our only other real option wasn't Ford, I'd consider pulling our business from GM.

Darcy, I think the tire mileage is in the fine print of the warranty papers and is prorated beyond a limit. This guy is try to shaft you. Under 10k,....come on???

I anticipated after a certain point there would be pro-rating involved, but really... The truck has only been in service for 2 months and 16,000km isn't anywhere close to the expected life we should see from these tires. Although this is an ambulance, we got 85,000km out of the very same brand, model and size that were on the last truck we got from GM a year ago.
This certainly has my attention. Not only am I responsible for the specification and ordering of new vehicles, I'm responsible for taking care of all fleet maintenance matters. I WILL be following up on this.

Darcy...if you were in the US that would certainly surprise me. Sorry dude, you are in a country where they hold your package for ransom when they deliver it to you after all postage and fees were paid upfront by the sender.
