Default "Ghost" window opens on my task bar

Well, it'* not really my taskbar.... My wife and I are currently living with friends, and as such we just use their computer. They have the eBay and Google toolbars installed in IE, and whenever I'm on the computer I see a "ghost" window quickly open and close in the taskbar roughly every 10 minutes. Also, we periodically get the message that an error has occurred with the eBay toolbar and IE must close. I then have to restart the computer to get back on the internet because IE won't reopen.

Aside from switching to Firefox, what can I do to remedy all this? It seems like there is some kind of virus or spyware on the computer, but I have run smitREM and Norton Antivirus/Internet Security countless times. Still, nothing changes.

Any ideas?

Them toolbars are more than likely the culprit. Try DL Spybot Search and destroy to clean it up a little.

I absolutely agree with you. However, it'* not my computer, and our hosts love their toolbars. I'll try Search & Destroy and AdAware.

Not your computer, so why worry about it?

A. It'* irritating to have to restart.
2. If there'* spyware, I don't want my bank information all over the web.
