Oh here'* a question maybe someone with more electric knowledge can help me understand. In the video you'll see a little wooden stand with a piece of metal sticking out of it. Thats a hanger and the ground wire is attached to it. It was completely insulated from the ground. The cable I have wrapped around my plastic "safety hanger" is of course the positive. Odd thing, I set the positive on the ground (concrete porch) and when my buddy grabbed the metal door and touched the ground outside he got a NASTY shock. We hooked the multimeter up between the concrete ground and the metal door frame and it PEGGED the 500v setting...wtf? We didn't get any spark when setting the positive cable on the ground at all. We double checked the negative cable and it was pretty well insulated. I still can't understand how a positive cable set on a concrete slab about 4 feet from the house can put a charge between the ground and the door frame...any ideas?

Wood? It was very dry out but I could imagine there may have been some recordable moisture. But all the same DC power needs to be set in a circuit, right? Its like putting your tongue on the positive or negative of the 9v won't do anything, but put it on both and you get a small shock. How could only the positive charge induce a 500v+ charge all over the back yard? If the negative was grounded we should have seen some kind of spark when setting the positive cable on the ground, shouldn't we?

I haven't seen the video yet (downloading it now), so I don't know how may batteries you were playing with, but it doesn't necessarily take a whole ot of voltage to use very little mosture to travel.

Pluse, you could have been really close to some rebar in the cement, which could have been really close to some house wiring, which could have been close to the door.

Could, could could... I could be blowing smoke out my *** as well....

LOL I'm not sure if you're being goofy or you missed a dose. That phone was FAR from functional when we were done. I cut the actual 10min welding act into the short bit you saw. Even so, I'd figure even one zap with that much voltage would be more than enough to destroy it.

but yeah, that was me off camera with a different phone.
