Ford Explorer, anyone have experience?
I'm getting ready to purchase a 1996 Explorer w/ 100k miles from a family member. It has the 4.0L V6. I'd have it as a daily driver and keep the bonnie for the weekends. Just wanted to know if anyone had experience with them? The only experience I have is the 4.0L found in our 95 Aerostar. Seems bulletproof. If so, any major problem I should look for? I'm not to worried about the tranny, it has a rare 5 speed manual.
THANKS!
THANKS!

I got some advice, since its a ford, go ahead and buy a tow truck.
(joking). I hope it works out for you. That wont save much gas though i dont think, 4.0 SUV. The trans will help.

yeah, I'm not expecting to get awsome gas milage. The bonnie gets around 15, just becuase of my driving. If I drive more like my parents it should get at least 20mpg. Plus it would take regular gas, instead of premium.

I have plenty of experience with Exploders. I believe the death of my mom'* 2003 4.0 tranny was partially due to me. Funny how my Aurora with 86k shifts liquid smooth as butter and a explorer with 24k shifted so hard, you could feel it between your feet. It finally blew and was replaced under warranty.
My Advice: Stay Away...you will have problems, trust me. But do what you want, Im not stopping you.
