As far as what to do about the car, your best bet would be to probably to talk to the wrecker service about getting the stuff out of it. It is still your car, so they can't deny you your stuff inside, you may have to pay a wrecker service bill first though. When my '93 was wrecked, I had them just tow the car right to my house and put it in my driveway and I paid the bill right there. Most likley, that is all you will have to do is pay a bill and you will be all set

As for how to get your stuff out, I had to call the insurance company of the driver that totalled my vehicle, because technically they bought it from me. I explained to them I was going to have to damage the vehicle more to get the crushed trunk open and get my audio equipment out and they were fine with it.

In your situation, it'* still your vehicle, so I'd imagine once you get it towed to the yard just ask the yard management if they'd mind you removing your personal belongings and they should be alright with it. The junkyard mine was at even lended me a big *** crow bar because they felt bad from Progressive jerking me around so much.

Not necessarily true. Here, if the car were towed to an impound lot, as is the case sometimes, you can't get anything (other than prescribed medication, health items, etc. (no, that doesn't include your stash )) off or out of the car until it'* released (read: paid for). The towing company is not going to want to be stuck with a worthless hulk if they think they might not get paid. E.G. if you had a totaled 78 Caprice crap-wagon with a kickin' system in it, didn't have insurance, and it didn't look like you were going to pay for the tow, you ain't gettin' nothin' outta that car. If the car is covered by insurance and they are going to pay for the total, the car is technically theirs and you're not supposed to take anything other than personal items from the car. An in-dash radio would be considered part of the car, whether it'* aftermarket or not. If the radio vacated the car before the insurance adjuster made the assessment, though, you'd probably be OK. That'* a grey area, there. Do you have an old radio you can shove in the hole?

Oh wow! Sorry to hear. When my Mom'* Camaro got totalled, she went in the next day after the accident and they let her and I go in and get all her belongings out without a problem.
