Default Employment Question- getting hired at a dealership

I'm currently in school to become a service technician. I am applying for a sponsorship first to be an intern, then after my schooling ill be fully employed.

Would anybody have an idea of what most dealerships may consider and acceptable driving record?

Welcome to the forum Mike.

Any DWI'* would be a job killer. Especially in a field where you would be required to make test drives.

Some felonies and maybe some misdemeanors could cause you to not get a job.

speeding tickets and accidents are a nono, my buddy was declined a dealership job because of an accident. this is because you are required to shuttle customers to and from places, driving their cars and dealership cars to and from dealerships.

Yep, most are going to require a clean 3-5 year MVR.

I just wanted to update my experience with this.

I am taking automotive classes in Glendale, Arizona as an ASEP student. My 39 month record has 3 speeding violations and my 5 year record probably has about 6.

Honestly it depends on the delerships insurance company. It doesn't matter how bad the delership wants you. In the end its the insurance company that says yes or no.

The first delership i tried did a 5 year record and said i could have no more than three points ( the equivalent of one speeding ticket).

The next delership did a 39 month record with no more that 3 points

And then the last delership i tried did a 39 months record but only looked at what the tickets were, not how many you have. (Quality over quantity i guess you could say)

At any rate i did get accepted into Liberty Buick and i couldn't be happier.

All i can say is if your looking to get into a delership and you've made some speeding mistakes back in the day don't give up!

Congrats on getting employed at Liberty Buick! Great job of not accepting no for an answer.

Atta boy! Persistence pays off!

BTW, now that you work at a dealer, and because your a member here, your monthly dues consist of getting us parts as needed.
Right now, I need an L36 short block and L67 accessories please.
