No matter which side you stand on I think we can all agree that the way our votes count (or not count) is ridiculous. If we can this around and get some awareness to what the electoral college is, we can stop it and bring back regular, old popular vote. Make your vote count

Don't think your vote has enough sway? Move to a bigger state.

The current system is based on votes by Representation. The states popular vote 100% counts. Then, the STATE REPRESENTATION votes based on how the vote INSIDE that state went.

If you want a trully Democratic system, move to a Democratic country. The USA is NOT a Democracy, it is a Republic, and it votes as such.

You mean move to a smaller state right? Do you even understand how the electoral college works? A person in a more populated state has less of a vote than a person in a lesser populated state. A candidate can win by getting slightly less than 23% of the popular vote if he can win the right states (which by the way does not include any of the large electoral vote states such as Cali and Ohio). So even if 3/4 of the country believes the candidate is not fit to run this country, they would still win.

And if we are not a Democracy, then why do we wave the banner of Democracy and attempt through both diplomatic and (most of the time) militaristic action to Democracy, NOT Republicanism.

Because most of the country is ignorant, and doesn't know what kind of governmental system we are.

Oh man, don't get me started in the ignorance in this country... I saw a video made by a student at the college my G/F works at where he asked other students very basic questions related to our country, and 99% could not answer correctly. Among the questions were, what year did we declare independence from Britain? What warning did Paul Revere shout on his ride to alert that the British were coming? What form of government do we have in the US?

This really kills any faith that I have in the future of our Republic if these are the people who will be voting for the next 50 years or so.

Your right this country is a Republic. I don't care for the Electoral college system. States like California that have control of 55 stakes in the electoral college is outrageous. It is based on population the sate, so it'* not a complete loss of popular vote.

States like Michigan who lose electoral votes from people moving out and moving into other states move the electoral votes to a different state.

I'd much rather not live where I do. I'd like to head to Texas. The stuff going on in my area really displeases me. I know it'* not just here, but elsewhere throughout the country. I think this country has lost its way...

With the Electoral College deciding, we have a few swing states that take up most of the candidates' time and money. With a straight popular vote, replace the swing states with urban areas. A candidate could win solely by concentrating on the cities and larger suburbs, and letting the rural areas fall where they may.

There are strong arguments for both methods. I've tried to take sides on this issue for years, and I still can't.
