Default eclipses

on the older ones what thec heack is that stupid bulge on the hood for? does it sevre a purpose or is it just tryin to look cool. reason i brought this up is one was behind me this morning and man it was ugly. i was drivin fast and it was just ridin my butt the whole time. then when i got to school it pulled in and dropped off its cargo then "peeled out" which translates to a frickin loud POS four banger sound with no tire spin at all.
