Draft to be started spring 2005
The concept of the draft sucks, but I really think it'* necessary to research more thoroughly exactly what'* going on before getting really worried or upset about it. There'* a lot of BS out there, with varying degrees of perceived credibility, and more and more of it will be chucked around as we get closer to election time.
Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.
I personally do not want to see a draft, because then I would have to lead a bunch of sorry, barely qualified, nintendo generation, fat, lazy, living with there parents until they are 30yrs old, people like yourselves. If this doesn't apply to you than I apologize.
I am disgusted with all the comments from idiots that say they support the soldiers serving now, but wouldn't serve themselves. Hypocrites. How many of you have been to other countries? Like Germany, Poland, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq. Maybe you would get a dose of reality by traveling around the world and seeing just how good you have it here in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Why wait? Move to Canada now please. Make room for some legal immigrants that want to be here and to serve the Country they live in and contribute to the freedom we all enjoy every day of our lives here in America.
So many people take for granted how good we have it here, I'll admit I used to take it for granted also, but after seeing what I have seen, I don't think any of you would feel that way any longer.
I've served in two wars, and am still serving in the Armed Forces of the Greatest Country in the World. Many Canadians have lost their lives serving overseas also, I salute every member of any Allied Military Forces that contribute to the war.
I missed the birth of my second daughter because I was in Baghdad last year, yeah it sucked, but I would go again in a minute if called to do so.
Our Commander in Chief is the best President we've had since his father left office. I will vote for him again this year, anyone who doesn't vote for Bush is NOT supporting the troops. I know, I've served in the Army since 1989, under both Democratic and Republican leadership, I know which type of administration is best for my fellow soldiers and I.

Well Ren, interesting post, however supporting the individual people that are over there in Iraq fighting and dying for an unjust reason and yet not supporting war in general is NOT a hypocrisy. My sympathy for those good people forces me to support them, despite my absolute disgust for what is going on over there
Its good to hear that you would gladly go back and fight because its something you believe in, but forcing young people to go fight for something they don't believe in is fundamentally wrong.

Ugh. I really wish that politics didn't get to me, but especially recently, when everywhere I turn there are people at eachother, I can't help it. Is "apathy" the only other option? My frustration in the matter is lazy opinions. Information overload. TV, newspapers, magazines, Internet..."information" everywhere...and it'* so much work to figure out who really knows what they're talking about and who doesn't ( because just about everyone seems to think they're an expert and everyone has their own agenda), most people just believe in the latest stereotypes, all the while suffering from the mistaken belief that we're beyond that because we're "informed." Why don't we all spend the time we're using to argue with eachother to go learn more about what we're talking about?
I think Ren said it best though. Living overseas was cool in a way, but I also lived on a Military Base with benefits and did not have to live with the economy.
Soldiers and their Allies are not dying in vain, they were called upon to do their job and protecting us so we can sit here and chat on a forum. Bush is obviously a president that backs up his words and it is about time we showed our power, even though this is a liberation and not a conquer situation. Watch the favorable democratic CNN channel, or Republican Fox News, and get a idea from both sides of the war. Go talk to a few soldiers, or read the Army Times to see how the moral is doing over there. None of us will really learn what is going on until we stop listening to pansies complain on TV and open our own eyes and see the big picture. War is always going to happen, and there will never be true peace here on Earth.

(My appologies to anyone who considers themselves a part of the media, or otherwise are connected to it, I'm just no a fan and I think it is a point that can't be argued-the media is biased, right-wrong-or inbetween)
Ok, but what else do we have, so we have determined that the media cannot be trusted, nothing is accurate, so we're all left in the dark at the end. Never knowing the whole truth.
