I should have taken pictures of the Festiva I had in my install bay bright and early Sunday morning. Teal green, white racing stripe, white tack on hood scoop, decals galore (probably 80 hp worth), and tons of other crap.

He does understand he is not going to get what he put into it right?

Cars just do not go up in value, except MAYBE, just maybe, the finest classics.
Even then with the money it would take to restore [unless it needs very little] they are still a loss.

I ain't gonna bug him but has someone alerted him that he is going to be at a loss?
