Default dog or security alarm

i need some opinions, their has been some shootings and other crime happing alot more in my area and my wife and i want to start protecting our family and home. she wants a security system and i want a dog. now i install fire and security alarms and ect for a living so i know the in and out of them and i think a dog is gonna be a bit better, mainly because a security system will call out right away but it takes time for the police to arive. well a dog is gonna hear any noise and is going to cause damage to the person and a good mean bark will scare away most people. but also i do plan on putting in a alarm but their is alot of upfront cost even if i do get it at cost. so what does everyone think?

I don't think you can be sued because an alarm system bit a burgler, check and see if your local laws allow a burgler to sue if your dog bites him.

Hey, stanger things have happened in this mad world.

Get the alarm and the dog, that way you get the best of both worlds

a 45 mag. has always worked

dog is a bad idea if you and the family go on several vacations or are away from the house for an extended period of time alot. unless you have some one you can trust to come by all the time to take care of the dog.

my ex-gf always wanted me to let the damn thing out. pain in my *** cuz it was always when i was in the middle of somthing

Get a dog. A small hyper one that will bark like crazy when any stranger comes near. Don't need to bite. A burglar will not enter a house where there is noise that will draw attention to him. He'll find another target.

Having a dog isnt a 100% guarantee, some dogs arent hostile toward strangers at all, even if they walk right into the house. The only way of making certain a dog is hostile is to train it to do so, which can lead to someone innocent being hurt.

I would honestly have to echo JayGXP'* sentiments if you are really concerned about the safety of your home and family. Although for strictly home protection id recommend a pump action 12 gauge shotgun. You could pick one up at a pawn shop for 100-200 dollars. They arent even much more expensive than that brand new. Precision accuracy is not necessary, not too mention it would be hard to achieve in a dark house in the middle of the night anyway. Which is why a shotgun is better than a handgun in that situation.

If you become serious about the gun thing, you might also check local laws concerning what can happen if you injure or even kill someone who tries to break into your home, ive heard lawsuits in the state of missouri stemming from such things.

I would like to see the EDT commercial where the couple is spending the night in their first house modified to where the guy grabs a pump shottie from behind the door as he goes to investigate the noise, then scares the beejesus out of the intruder with a "warning shot"

Please don't get a dog if your primary reason for getting one is for household protection :(

yea if your looking for an immediate answer a dog is not the way to go cuz to train it your self you have to get a puppy and what good is a puppy to scaring a intruder.

and to buy a already trainded dog that doesnt know you or your family no matter how much they say the dog will be completly controlable there are always chances that it will attack the wrong person.

an alarm and some sort of "self defence" item is the way to go. doesnt have to be a gun. you could always get a taser.
