Default did you know computers really can catch on fire?

ok, i'm sitting there playing on my p1 233mmx, 80Mb, 80GB monster of a computer... minding my own business, balancing the checkbook, listening to music, with AIM and YIM running... I had this pc topped out. A few weeks ago my C: drive (40Gb Western Digital) started buzzing it'* last breath, but i figured it would hold out til i picked up a 160gigger... it didn't. i run an open chassis with 5 fans normally running, one on each HDD, one on my graphics card, and two on my p1. i disconnected them all as they had lost some fins and were making this noise... out of no where my C: drive goes "clink clink wheeerrrr blizzzzzzzzzzz" them nothing smoke for like 0.2 seconds and then fire. i mean big fire. like "holy crap call in the brigade this is taking down the house" fire... melted down, took my D: 40gigger, my burner, my PS and my geforce 2 with it..... i had no idea "meltdown" really meant fire...

I have a video card on my cube wall at work that caught on fire. I got a call on a monday morning that a users pc wasn't working. I went up to check it out and pc was on but no video. Open the case to see soot over most parts and part of the video card melted away. That was a fun thing too see first thing monday morning.

Disconnected all the fans. Think that may be the problem?
