Default determining value of sports cards?

well when I was younger I used to collect cards, and back then the best way to see how much they were worth was to buy what we always called "A Beckett" which was a book where you could look up your card and see how much it was worth.

What im wondering is if there is a better way to do it nowadays or not? Im thinking about going through my collection and seeing if I have anything worth enough to sell on Ebay or something.
