Default Desk top help

So, some how most of my desk top icons are missing. There is something there, but not the icons that are supposed to be. We did nothing. i posted a question, went outside for a bit, came back in and noticed it.
I am running XP. Anyone know how to fix this?

Its possible that your computer did a "desktop cleanup" and removed the unused icons.

Check to see if you have a new folder on your desktop called Unused Icons or something like that. Your mising icons may be in there.

Good luck.

Why not just do a "quick launch" menu and do away with the desktop icons altogether

This is what my desktop looks like! The programs are there, not the icons!

We tried right click refresh, didn't work!

Did both of those, neither worked!

We were able to create new shortcuts for some programs, but some worked and some didn't!
