I bought this memory stick thinking it was a plug and play device. It does not work

unless the RAM stick is shot, it should be plug and play. Check the the maximum capacity your motherboard can handle, if you try to exceed the max it wont work. Other than that, take the stick you have in now, and go to best buy, they have a deal right now, 512 for twenty bucks

Some RAM does not always work in certain motherboards. What board are you running and what is the brand of the memory? If this is not the case then you have a dead stick.

Sounds like either the wrong memory for your system or you didnt snap it in well

Now I git to try to sell it to recoup the cost
