I've got an Athlon XP 2100. My computer has shut itself down a few times recently because the cpu got too hot. I took the sid ecover off to let it cool off better.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a peltier or water cooling. I've got a Thermaltake Volcano 80mm fan and heatsink on it now.

and its still havening issues :?: might need to add a few more case fans will give it a rather loud sound but cheaper then water cooling

It'* loud enough as is. It'll still have a problem with BOTH sides of the case removed sometimes.

I've got an XP 2000 that was running hot with a Volcano. I put a Cooler Master Jet 7 on it and no more trouble. It'* no louder with the control at full speed and quieter if I put it at 75% which is where I keep it now unless I'm doing serious work.

I totally reccommend the Jet7 or Aero7.

I have a Volcano 9 heatsink/fan on my 1.4ghz Celeron, and it is overclocked to 1.6ghz and it still runs about 89*F with the fan turned up to 3800rpm. I have a lot of case fans (definately more than 10, I'm not on that PC right now so I can't really check), and I keep the left side cracked open just a little, but when it gets up to around 100*F I will take the side off and turn the fan up a little and it cools right down. I also have 4 cd drives and 4 hard drives in that PC, so it stays warm. I think if you put like 6 or 8 case fans on your tower it should stay pretty cool.

I used to run a Volcano 9 on my 2500+. I upgraded to an Aero7. I have 5 case fans with it as well. 3 exhaust, 2 intake. Negative pressure is what you want.

Volcano'* SUCK. Even if it'* designed for a higher processor then you got, you'll 95% of the time overheat. Your fan may be going in the rong direction. My roomate this year, got a volcano last year, and got my old roomate hooked onto it too. They both ran as hot as they did with the stock AMD cooler.

Here'* my roomates two coolers now, not exacly the "norm" but they both work GREAT. His P4 2.4c runs @ 3.0xxx ghz, witha 1ghz FSB under 50c. This thing moves air, and cools the chipset.


This is a zalman cooler, the heatsink fans out, and is copper, and the fan is mounted to the PCI area, and the fan also helps cool the chipset. Neighbor with a CoolerMaster Wave case, had overheating problems, mainly the chipset, so he got this after my roomate did, and it solved all of his problems. This is an athlon 1700+ i believe.

Zalman makes a great cooler. Copper is a good way to go.
