Default computer virus help

on my computer I have some application named "dosfont.exe" that takes up almost all my free CPU power, and uses 20k-100k of my memory. I do searches on my HD for the file but I cannot find it to remove it. I found the keys in the regestry that are named after it, but when I try to remove them they come back after a restart. The keys in the regestry point to a folder, but the file is not in that folder either. Please help, my computer is pretty much worthless with this thing eating all my resources.

Review this URL, read it [It is a little confusing with all the quotes in there, but it will help you out].

Same link I found. Further investigation also shows DOSFont is a legitimate application...

if it is legitimate then what is it doing and why is it making my computer so slow?

Here is a quote I found from that website you linked.
"Unless your daughter knows she needs these
applications I would, as you have already done with bakjava.exe rename
them and then perhaps get her to carry out a fresh scan for malware
including unwanted parasites. Does locating these two files in Explorer,
selecting, right clicking, choosing Properties and looking at their
Version tab give a clue as to their origins?"

Does anyone know how I could find this dosfont program??? The search thing came up empty and so did the link that the regestry entires pointed to. The regestry entries had an asterik next to them, does this have any significance? There was also another asteriked entry in the same regestry folder, referring to a program named disksys.exe . When I went to the file where the regestry said it existed, it was not there.

have you tried using

ad-aware
spybot-search and destroy
hijack this
cwshredder

all but hijack this are pretty straightforward. Hijack this will give you a list of all running processes associated with Internet explorer. (you can kill the processes you don't recognize.

adaware did nothing. I will try the others. Part of the reason I have not already is because it is using all my CPU to do absolutly nothing.

reboot in safe mode. It won't run any extra anything.. this way you have all the CPU for yourself.

Reboot in safe mode and use the PC like that? Youre kidding right, kid from the Navy commercial lol jk? Safe mode does nothing unless you know how to fix the problem in safe mode. I say go for a format buddy, it always feels good to get a fresh start on things. Sorry for the Navy thing but I really really hate that commercial.

Reboot in safe mode - delete or rename the offending file - reboot in normal mode - see what happens

Safe Mode can cure a lot of problems

I'm serious. Run the PC in safe mode, run the scans in the spyware programs, this way you have the CPU usage you need. And one thing I didn't think of, is what MOS95B mentioned, is to delete the files that are affecting your PC.
