ok, plan B time.

go to control panel>internet options>programs tab>click Reset Web Settings>click OK>reboot>retry

i meant to say WMP. no audio or vids that use that off the internet work.

I think then that you need to check your firewall settings. I suspect that WMP is blocked from accessing the interenet. A test would be to download a video that won't play over the net and see if it plays from your harddrive.
