Computer help
I give up :(
I've been trying for weeks to figure it out myself, but Bill Gates has defeated me. Can anyone give me detailed, idiot proof instructions on how to convince my wireless laptop that there is a printer connected to the network. PC is running XP Pro and connected to a wireless modem (WRT54G) Laptop is running Vista Home basic The laptop is connecting to the network, it will access the internet but it will not access the shared files on the PC and it will not share it's files with the PC as well as not recognizing any printer. I had no problem with the old laptop, I could do anything I wanted with that one, but it was running XP. |
I had that Problem too..
I seem to have to Type in the IP of the Actual Puter to find it in the search Tab... Then I can pull what ever I want from the XP Machine with the Vista Lappy I'd love to know how to work it all out as well.. ;) __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

It was so easy when both were using XP. |
Yeah it was easy when I was using XP... On my old Router I could get the stuff to show up... But it was quirky, sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't...
On my new router( same one as you have ) I have the same issues as you and can't get to the Puter unless I type in the IP of that computer... Mixing XP with Vista seems like playing with fire... sooner or later we are going to get burned  __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Carefull!!
Last time I started calling down Vista, I was soundly put in my place. "it's not the operating system, it's the operator"  And, to an extent, I agree. However I'm thinking that Vista was not made to be easy for the average user to master. |
i think you have to turn on file sharing or file discovery or something pretty like that on the vista machine to see shared files. and I'm sure you've done this but make sure you have the printer shared as well.
