I think that it should say, and define, that reasonable attempts must be made. Also that you can't create threatening situations for yourself. I think this could have great potential.

Oh yeah, I liked this too.

Yes and no. I'm sorry PJ, but you are too good of an example. I honestly don't think my sister would stand much of a chance against the average sized male, let alone someone who is just a big dude. She wouldn't stand a chance, but a weapon could increase the odds if used properly.

This law can be a catch 22. There can be many interpretations of the law by many different people, and what one person may feel as life threatening another may not.

I think this will start a killing frenzy among the lowerclass population.

I can picture it now:

You got a prollem essay? Why you lookin at me funny? Oh you gonna stab me? Bang Bang.

Will it still be justified if the gun used was stolen and he/she shot in self deffense? Hmmmm

*watches as legislation opens a can of worms

heres the biggest concern i have with the law:

And, he argued, it gives defense attorneys a potential avenue to seek acquittal for crimes. In effect, criminals will benefit much more often than any innocent victim. "It'* going to give the guy who'* really looking for a fight, or does something totally irresponsible or venal, a defense he would not otherwise have."

I personally hope this gets killed quick, before too many people do.

Thinking from the "other side of the badge", we got too many people shooting each other now. Give them a loophole to potentially make it legal, and I hate to think what would happen. Or, you get someone who thinks they are Clint Eastwood, goes the legal purchase/license/carry route, and then gets their gun taken from them in a situation and instead of defending themselves ends up going from gettung mugged or beat up to being dead.....

From what I've heard on the news the law enforcement would still investigate each situation to see if deadly force is actually warranted and if not the shooter would be arrested. I don't think it'* so much of a bad thing. I believe that people who have guns need to follow their state laws on getting them registered and getting any permits needed to carry them. A concealed weapon permit here runs $150 and is good for 4 years and they do a background check. No problem.

I have a permit. And Oregon already has laws to cover this. The right to defend yourself is very well known here, and has never been abused.

Nearly 4% of Oregon adults have CCW permits as of 12/04:

Oregon has never had a self-defense shooting that was found to be un-just.
