A chat about GM's quality reputation
Now, this is in NO WAY wanting to start a flame war, as I am a three time GM owner, however I am asking you guys a serious question:
Why is it known today, that GM builds crap cars? How have the "imports" gotten such a reputation that they are now outselling all domestic brands because "their cars last forever"? I mean, today toyota and honda all have cars built in the US, so the "imports" are really built in the USA. Will it only take a few years until Toyota and Honda'* USA built cars are consider "crap" as well?
I ask, becasue I have owned THREE GM cars, a Chevy Cavalier, a Buick Century and now my Bonneville SSE. All have been wonderful cars, and I beat the hell out of all of them, and they still ran strong until the day I, 1) totaled it, 2) engine died 3) still running strong.
What gives with the bad rep?

interesting thought 1993SLE, then what about J&D Power rating GM cars among the highest in quality/reliablity. does that do anything to hurt/help the rep of GM and/or "imports"
I just saw something earlier on tv that said that Pontiac got some kind of award for quality made cars or something like it. I only caught a bit of the commercial but I was happy that GM was getting props.

Oh and Dave in talking about C&d and Motor Trend, etc
I think people are just biased against American cars.
Look at the crap the GTO gets for its styling.
If you ask me it looks every bit as nice as a BMW.

Looks similar to me. Except the BMW is praised.

I'm so glad I'm too tired to start on my usual tirade on this sad, sad subject...

Seriously, I get so ticked about hearing GM getting dogged. My buddy showed me an article in one of those priorly mentioned mags where they were ******* the corvette'* interior. They claimed it looked like it was made, as well as most GM cars, with cheap plastic. I also hear how the foreign cars get props for good cornering, and more hp per cubic inch, so you get a lighter car and more hp. Thus they are fast and agile. While they claim that domestics, especially GM, are bulky, underpowered, cheaply made, and overpriced.
One thing I do know, I was watching Top gear, or some such show on that my buddy got from the net which is made in England. And I guess our Euro equivelant of the Bonneville'* are RWD and much better. It seems, they say, that we Americans have an obsession with FWD, and so they give it to us, while in other countries they go for the RWD for performance. The companies are called Vauxhall in England, and Holden in Austraila. They are both GM, but overseas. Check out our GM cars from England:
