Gives us something to dust. I like Honda Civics personally... I mean its nice to see the cattle line up so easily for the slaughter.

Can you even get the new Civic yet? How can they vote it the car of the year when it hasn't even proven itself in the market yet? The Civic is good at anything but being cheap transportation that typically won't last as long as it should.

The new Civics are definately available right now. I see them everywhere already. One or two a day. Looks much better in person.

I do believe only new models can get COTY honours. If you've been out for more than a year, you've had your shot... It totally would not make sense to have, say, the 2006 Corolla win the COTY honours, for the sake of argument. It didn't win in 2003 when it came out, so why now?

But either way, Motor Trend is well... not for the brightest of car enthusiasts out there, IMO.

The Civic isn't completely unproven-type-of new. The engine (K18?), part of the K-series of motors (IIRC), has already been around for a little while in other forms/displacements. It'* pretty solid, better than the "disposable D" which was the D17 motor.

My parents' 92 olds 88 has 370,000 miles on it. All sorts of original stuff on it.

The reason why you haven't seen too many new civics is there been a recall on it already....
