I just found one at walmart on clearance for $420.00 minus 20% & no sales tax here.. Is this a good beginner SLR camera? I snatched it up cause its a good deal but know noting about it. It was an impulse buy lol.
I noticed that a picture on appears on the lcd after you take a picture. Is there a way to make it stay on like a regular digital camera?
Thanks
Chris

Welcome to the world of DSLR, all the advantages of digital with the cumbersome behaviour and handling of an old film camera.
The preview feature might be able to be adjusted, but at times you will be snapping off the shutter repeatedly (depending on the subject of the picture) and long preview displays will tick you off. Use the picture review feature and you'll learn to live without what you are used to with the point and shoot.
Have fun with it and good luck finding deals on accessories and other lenses etc.
BTW...$420..wicked deal.

We bought the same camera, with a 75-300 lense and a camera bag, on black friday for $549. It sounds like a hell of a deal to me. The preview is kind of a PIA. Most of the time, you don't have enough time to see the picture before it goes away. I've never tried to see if it could be changed. We love the camera otherwise. Still don't know how to use all of the features. We bought it to take better pictures of our baby, we couldn't get close-ups to focus with our old HP camera. Enjoy it!
The Rebel XT is a somewhat dated design from early 2005 - it'* actually two models behind (the XTi and XSi have since been released), hence the good (wouldn't call it amazingly great) deal. No question you'll still do great with this camera however.
For Comparison:
a new Nikon D40 (introduced late 2006) can be had here for $450
a new Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 can be had here for $600, and reflects a model released only a few months ago. Ask Jim, I think he rather likes his

I figured there was a feature to delay the preview time. I've ran into a few occasions when I dont even want the preview (because of taking several pictures in a row).
And yup, I love my A200.

Yeah this camera is completely different than the cheaper digital cameras I am accustomed to.
I will be selling my old cameras
Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W1 3x optical zoom
