My dog just tossed up what appears to be one of my sick wife'* used tissues. Can a dog get the flu?

After seeing some of the "crap" my fiancees mutt eats,I wouldn't think so.
For some reason after seeing the mutt eat cat poo,it just wouldn't seem like it would be possible.

if a dogs flu consists of a runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing, then yes dogs can get the flu

I think it could be possible. I've even heard recently on the news something about dog flu. When my dog has a fever we give him 1/2 a baby aspirin and it helps him.

I use to have an epileptic dog and we would have to give him valium after his siezures.

I am not an expert, and I'm not claiming to know anything more then the next person. But my best guess is that since flu is a virus, and viruses are host species specific then dogs cannot get a human flu, but one that is modified to be able to recognize the receptors on a dog'* cells.
