Camping
one thing to do with a camp fire ( requires you to bring more stuff though) is you need a copper pipe, it HAS to be copper, and a rubber hose, it has to be rubber.
You put one end of the pipe in the fire, base of the fire is fine, and then you feed the hose slowly into the fire through the pipe. the reaction between the copper pipe and the rubber hose puts out really cool colors.
You may want to try it before leaving just to test it.
WARNING, pipe may become hot, lol.

Thank you so much for adding that Tracy....I was thinking the same thing. Also I must say please be careful with metal hot dog sticks, PAndrew found out the hard way
But mainly have fun, and enjoy the great outdoors
well, for cooking food, take some veggies, meat and italian dressing and put them in a foil pouch (you make it with foil obviously) and then place it in the coals of the fire to cook it. Turned out great at the summer camp I worked at.
The pipe trick is cool as well. Done that many times at my aunt'* place on the lake.
you can also get a paper roll tube from those huge paper rolls that schools have, roughly 1/2 inch thick wall and a 3 inch diameter, and some old aerosol cans (must be old, as many of the new ones don't work) and you place one end of the tub into the fire, point the other end away from everyone and drop the aerosol can in with the spray end down.... Our best was 180 feet... again, summer camp staff trick...
kids, don't try this at home.... go somewhere else

if you want to do the roll and can trick and can't find a roll go to your local newspaper printing plant. They normally put out the last 50' or so of paper because the machine can't use it. The paper is on one of those thick rolls.
One of the great things that me and MyLittleBlackBird do is throw handfuls of all-purpose baking flour at a campfire. The fine powder causes the equivalent of a grain dust explosion, and the fire lets off a nice POOF of flame! Do it with multiple people in rapid succession, and you can make quite a huge ball of flame that rises over the campfire. I know it sounds pretty "backwoods," but you should definitely try it!
Something that'* kind of neat, WITH PROPER SUPERVISION/CAUTION, is to throw small cans of food unopened into a fire.
KABOOM!!
Used to do it all the time in the Army...
Or, safer, melt pennies....
Snipe Hunts...
etc....
