Camera People
I know pretty much nothing about cameras and was wondering if I could get some help.
I'm trying to get decent camera for my girl for her b-day.
I'm looking for something thats:
-Under $300
-As compact as possible
-Comes in black (has to look kinda cool but she wouldn't like pink etc.)
-Has internal memory (rather not bother with sd cards etc.)
-7+ MP and/or the best picture quality possible with above mentioned
So far I'm only really looking at the Sony DSC-W90.
TIA for any input.

Canon SD870 IS. If you want cheaper you can consider the SD850 IS, similar camera, different lens (zoom range). You may want to reconsider the internal memory requirement. You won't be able to take very many pictures at all with that setup. What'* the difference between that or a single bigger memory card you can keep in the camera and never take out?

why do you need a 7mp?
Let me add though, if you plan on zooming in on an image and cropping it then the more the megapixels the better (depending how far you zoom in)

Retailers are seemingly giving away 5.1 "ish" point and shoots for $150 or so. Its crazy. However after 6MP, the prices go up. But if 7+ MP is your game, you'd be better off with a DSLR.
You'll be happier with a 5.1 MP camera with a quality lens then a 7.1MP in your price range, you can almost guarantee the lens quality won't be as good.

Yep. Point and shoot. Something real simple.
I guess t dosen't have to be a 7+ MP. I know that isn't the end all picture quality standard. Thats why I was saying and/or picture quality up there. I just wasn't sure what actually determines it... Sounds like the lens has a lot to do with it..
There will probably be a whole bunch of croping so I guess in that sence the extra MPs would help.
The no memory card thing isn't 100% necessary. I guess what ever will hold the most and not require an card reader? (I don't even know if some require you use one? Plz go easy on me I don't/havent even owned a digicam.)
So, I guess whatever is the best I can get within the point and shoot constraints.. Nothing that I would have to get another lens for or anything..
I think she'* realy looking for something that she can take with her all the time without taking up too much space, looks kinda neat, is simple and takes the best possible photos within those limits..
p.*. you guys are awesome thanks for the input.

That makes alot of sense.... :?
Thats like saying why do you need 400HP in your car...because when I want to use it I can, pretty simple concept.
Do not buy some high m.p. / cheap POS you will regret it,the sd750 / 1000 is not expensive,as a matter of rfact I know of one on anandtech like new / complete for $165 shipped.
get the canon, you will thank me later ...

I'm still recommending the Canon. I shoot Sony DSLR, but when it comes to P&*, Canon no question.
