buying a new camera

well, i am finally breaking down a going to buy a digital camera so i can start posting some pics. i need some help though. what brand should i look for, what are the key features that i should look for. I don't know anything about pixels and all of that camera talk so some help and input would be great. i don't want to get ripped off and end up buying a piece of junk that don't work.
THANKS FOR ANY INPUT.

what's your price range?

whisky98 11-16-2003 07:52 PM

price doesn't matter

you want at least 3 mega pixels...more is better.
You want good features like lithium battery, built in flash and bright crisp display.
Optical zoom is better than digital zoom so look for high numbers.
Data transfer is a consideration and so might bundled software?

I have a Kodak easy share for several reasons
1) its cheap
2) its has a one touch transfer system.
3) easy for my kids to use (see above)
4) it takes ok pictures (see sig and avatar)
5) it comes with easy to use software
6) has removable memory sticks

There are more high end cameras like cannon, minolta, sony etc. You get what you pay for. More money better pictures.

My parents bought a Konica for a couple reasons, They were going to china and needed lotsa space, GREAT pictures, and good battery life.

It has two memory slots, one SD, one Memory Stick. It has a LI Ion battery with charger and affordable batteries. The camera also has a viewfinder, so you can turn the screen off, and still use it. The battery life is amazing with the screen on. The screen is very bright, and it's never been washed out when i've used it. The camera is 4 megapixels, and takes pictures from 640x480 to 2304x1704 resolution. I've never seen better pictures from a digital camera that isn't an SLR model.

I'll say it again:

Canon S400.

Best digital camera I've ever used.
