Mythbusters proved that tires wont burn, he had a fuel line failure, notice that the engine dies there at the end? Its because it ran out of fuel because it was pouring onto the track.

They have this contest every year at Carlilse. To be in the running you have to roast legal tires off the car. Depending on if there'* wind, one side of the bleachers is gagging up chunks. I always watch outside of the arena. The view isn't as good, but it'* healthier. And ya, I never seen a actual fire.
