The new lasers use an aiming laser and then a pulse laser. If you are flying and your radar laser goes off, you need to stand on the brakes to get your MPH down quick before the trigger can be released and then your MPH is locked. So..a good laser detector, ceramic pads and slotted and drilled rotors are the "Triad of Ticket Defeat".

Funny... kid was speeding, BAM, flies by a cop on the shoulder, lights come on he gets pulled over, cop comes walking up and snickers while saying, "Boy, Ive been waiting on you all day."... kid calmly looks at him and smiles, "Well, I got here as fast as I could."... cop cuckles and writes a warning for 10 over...

Now I on the other hand, didnt have a "warning" funny... but when i was 17 i spent the night in texas, at a local town on the 5 mile stretch of 4 lane 55mph traffic that tends to do some light to light (about 10 lights thru the 5 miles) racing... well it was late, headed home, had to pee, so i kicked it up to about 120... 3 in the morning, radar set, im only one on the highway, no sweat... I top a hill and boom.... 5 bars of red then red and blue kick on at the bottom, i just hit the brakes, and down shifted 2 gears to slow me down FAST!... well i get pulled over and he gets behind me.... Texas Highway Patrol... sweet guy actually... walked up and introduced himself, explains that he clocked me at 121, locked it at 84, laughed and said i had good brakes, then calmly asked where the fire was... typical right... well I pick my head up, smile, and explain its 3 miles up the road at the Exxon, and Im going to put it out... he laughs, says ok ill be right back... 3 mins later he walks up and says sign here and you can get to the fire ... my only response was yes sir lol... he was nice and made it fast and i really had to pee... but i slowed it down the rest of the night and learned not to do that one again...

So I should get a good radar detector or a good lawyer?

Save the lawyer for the criminal traffic issues. Speeding tickets will run you about $120 to pay, a lawyer will cost you three times or more that to fight it.

I don't mind the fee'*.The biggest issue for me is avoiding points for insurance purposes.I'm only 20 and insurance is pretty high for me.

If you dont mind the fee'* the lawyers always a good hedge. They are part of the game. Getting a lawyer virtually guarantees the City Attorney is going to offer a plea down from the speeding.
