Im suprised nobody mentioned the diehard platinum. which replaced all optima batteries at sears, and is a far superior design.

optima warranties suck, and we saw alot of problems with the red tops. so far the platinum has been awesome compared to them.

I've never heard a single bad story about an Optima. That'* with my ties to several automotive forums and a local audio shop.

John...what the hell are you talking about?

EverStart - 3 year free replacement/100 month prorate/Made by Johnson Controls

Optima - 3 year free replacement/ Made by Johnson Controls

DieHard - 3 year free replacement/100 month prorate/Made by Johnson Controls.

and...the warranty difference is....?

do correct me if I'm wrong on this, but...if its got that kind of warranty....what makes one better than the other (besides the optimas of course, they're in a class all their own IMO)

Yes, but those are deep cycle. We're talking about starting batteries here.

maybe he confused the 2 warranties. but my statement still stands, 1 yr for a 179 dollar battery is crap.

true, but in many cases, a deep cycle, depending on specific application can have a much harder life...and on average, may only last 1/3 the time compared to a starting battery. And the cost is also relative to the technology that goes into it, not necessarily how long it lasts.

Example: People pay BIG money for land rovers, but they're also one of the most unreliable vehicles on the market.

You can't compare the two, it'* like comparing a boat motor'* warranty to a car'* warranty.

Optima Reds are great in winter, mine was always on, always cranking even when rated @ 770 CCA. Never had an issue even @ 15 below, 20 below, etc.. It lived outside in MN winters as well. It'* also sealed, will work upside down, never needs filling etc..

I only paid $115 for my yellow top, and it'* lasted this long. I feel I've got my monies worth and then some.
