I am so glad you didn't say "because it tastes better."

I am a hoity toity import drinker, but I can respect the mass produced beers. I love MGD mosty, Michelob has a place in my heart, and I can drink most of the others, but I'd rather kick in a few more bucks for the extra taste of a good Newcastle, or even more for a Spaten or a gold label Becks, or...Warsteiner, mmm...just thinking about all the different IPA'* and Imperial Stouts and various other goodies at the Cost Plus by my apartment.

Haven't tried the new Michelob though.

PS: Can't stand the watered down beers (Bud, light beers, Busch, Coors, ...)
Sorry to offend, but if you're killing your liver and trying to help your health with a light beer, then you're more of an alcoholic than a beer drinker. I drink beer for flavor, not to get drunk.

Okay, so maybe for both.

I will never again be satisfied with American/Canadian beer. The beer in Germany is incomparable.

That is a disgusting overstatement..

you can get VERY good quality beer here in America too, you just have to stay away from the BMC family and start researching some craft brews

It was an exaggeration, of course.

But to date I have had nothing that compares to what I have had here, don't get your panties in a bunch.
