Since you been there, what about is the effective range, or how far out can you get an accurate lock?
I thought I posted an answer to this, but I guess I fell victim to lag or something. Basically my answer was, depemding on style (hard mount or gun) and make/model of the radar, we could get reading up to a mile away. Identifying the specific car at that range is nearly impossible, tho, unless it'* the only one there.

And, a nifty fact, a lot of police will leave thier radar on even when they aren't actively looking for speeders. Everyone'* detectors going off helps keep the pack under control. And some of us thought it was fun to just hit the radar and watch all the pretty brake lights...

I wouldn't mind being a cop...it would be fun.
