A simple fix is the Google searchbar, which is downloaded free from the Google page. I have the popup blocker turned on and it basicly doesn't allow any additional explorer windows to open so it does get rid of some good things, but if you know you will want to something to popup you can just hold down "ctrl" and everything gets through. Just a thought.

I use both. Firefox can't do everything, it'* nice for tabbed browsing, but the google toolbar has A LOT of things.

Popups when offline mean lots of spyware and adware

I use adware, spysweeper, and SpyBot. Obsessive about my computer? HECK YA! Run those regularly as well as a physical firewall and a software firewall. Then I have Snort running in the background...my computer is practically inpenetrable.

Also, if you don't want to download a program to sweep for adware and spyware, go to:

Start --> Run --> type in MSCONFIG --> startup tab

In that list, the only things your really need checked are igfxtray and hkcmd. Sometimes there is a program in that list that runs popups, but usually they are sneakier then that.

I agree....Kazaa Lite is the way to go (hacked version of Kazaa with no spyware and pop ups) if you need it at all. Frankly with all the lawsuits these days I'd be careful running around on Kazaa anyways...

Yah, Kazaa Lite is the way to go...and you can download a pop up blocker using it and avoid the spyware from the Google Search toolbar. Add some spybot and Adware, and you're good to go (I get nada in the way of pop ups ).
