Angry-PC-User_02.gif

I'm venting.........................

some of you know, I bought Toms laptop this past weekend. It didn't have wirless built in so I went to best buy today and bought the LINKSYS wireless-G 2.4 router and the
wireless-G notebook adapter card also 2.4ghz

first off the windows in the car were open and the wind sucked the sales receipt out the window on the highway. bye bye rebate

Now I'm sitting here doing everything the frickin CD tells me to do(ip address, mask, and gateway. but it will not connect to my modem.

tells me to turn off the modem and try again. Still no go. and again and again....
I'm pissed now.

so I try to use my PC and it wouldn't open up IE at all. unhook the linksys and still no go.
notice the 2 tiny little comp pics in the lower right saying conection problem. NO **** Sherlock
click on it and ask for repair and I see it gives me another ip addy WTF is that all about???

OK I tried all this crap all over again and Yup You Guessed It..Nothing again.

well as you can see I am back to my DSL modem working.

<-----Cracks open first beer. Now second.

Anybody have any secrets they want to fill me in with?

As for the rebate, if you paid for your purchase with a debit/credit card, you may still be able to go to the store and have them print you out a receipt using your credit card. Also if you need to return either object because it'* defectived you can print out your online credit or bank account statement as proof that you made a purchase( I once did this when I lost the receipt).

As for your other troubles, check to see if you have connected all wires to the corrects spots (I know, why the hell would I connect to the wrong spot ). Also you can check to see if their are any codes you must type in before it will connect. For example with my AT&T wireless modem, before any new computer can connect you must type in the security code (this keeps any Joe Boe from stealing your connection).

Plus check to see if their is a tech support number you can call with Linksys, if not call you DSL provider to see if they can help you.

Yup!
You shouldn't have bought a Linksys

As long as you used a credit card, you can return it to Best Buy. Get a Netgear; I've never had any problems with them.

Oh, and if you do decide to keep it, try to learn Hindi so you can understand the customer service line.

Heh, I've bought two Linksys routers and they both died on me, both in the first 2 months of ownership. One just all of the sudden keeled over, and my other one kept dropping connections. Oh, and just to clarify my previous post, their tech support SUCKS! They don't know crap, and they don't even speak English. If you ask them something they don't normally encounter, they automatically put you on hold and go talk to their english speaking supervisor. It'* horrible. Also, you ALWAYS have to go through their script to get them to replace it. I did all of my research online, and still could not get it to work, so I called them to get it replaced. Said they had to verify it before they replaced it. It took them 45 MINUTES to CONFIRM what I originally told them. Also, my Netgear router was actually intuitive IMO, and hasn't failed me yet. In fact, I've gotten better distance with my Netgear than my old Linksys.

As I explained in my post, you were required to call tech support to get your unit replaced. Besides that, I have not called tech support since I got my old Dell in 6th grade.

And what is your version and model number of the one you have? I'm just curious.
