In any event, start look for an external leak, Radiator, water pump and all of the various hoses that the 3100 has all over the place... If you find no leaks start looking in the area where the lower intake and the heads meet... These gaskets usually tend to leak at the corners, could be any of the 4 corners... Let us know what you find..

For those with leaky DexCools: Have you ever tried to put in the GM supplemental tablets to seal the colling system of any leaks? Or an equivalent leak stopper from Autozone? Because thats what you have to use on some cars like the Northstar based engines which use Dexcool.

*edit*
On some of the later 3800 engines GM used the Tablets to help seal the throttlebody from leaks...

You have to be careful of the seal tabs...only a few will do, otherwise they can plug up an aluminum heater core like nothing else!
As far as the 60 degree V6'*...they have a BAD rap for all the intakes puking out (as you all well should know) ...I know of a few GM people who went elsewhere because of such. Sad situation, and IMO it hurt GM'* image overall.
Oh well, at least they bring help work into my shop!

Yes the intakes on these are TERRIBLE. Kind of like the SII 3800'*. My dad has a 1996 Cutlass Ciera, beautiful condition, we bought it a little over a year ago with 36k actual miles on it. That'* right: 36,000 miles on a 1996. 5100/year. But she'd just had the engine replaced 6k previous (around 30k). Exact problem, intake leaked BAD, burned all coolant, warped heads. Obviously this was worst case. But other than that his car goes pretty good for a boat. Some day i'll get pics up here of it.
