Default 26 Megs!!!!!

I recently set my grandparents up with an HP pavilion slimline tower, with the AMD 2.4 Ghz 6400 dual core processor 2 gigs of ram and a 250GB hard drive, that replaced their old gateway they got in 2000.

After setup, I speed tested their internet on speedtest.net, and it came up with 20 ms ping, and a whopping 26 Meg download speed.....

needless to say I was completely shocked not only is that the fastest i have ever seen, but the highest speed comcast offers is 10 meg, and that is only to businesses.

At that speed my grandmas internet is in the top 50 fastest in the world

yeah...you can get burst speeds from comcast like that...but the truth is..you're not really getting that speed...the modem wouldn't allow that kind of actual throughput. I have 20 mbps down/20 mbps up for FiOS and don't even see that good of a connection. You can only get what your modem says you can..and if the package says 10...thats all you're gettin.

A 20ms ping isn't bad tho...thats actually quite nice.

I kinda figured that too, but I have tested it four or five times over the course of a month and its always around 25

Yeah, the 20 ms was cool its like 60 at my house.

I have also downloaded some things just to make sure it wasnt a fluke, I downloaded the AVG internet security trial, its 40MB and it was done in a flash.

Even if their internet isnt 26 its still rediculously fast

To be honest, FIOS and Comcast use the same equipment/connections anyways. So really, you only get the peaks at that high speed. My FIOS was blazing fast when not many people had it, but then they cracked down on us. I also used a hacked modem on Comcast and got really high speeds.

you think so? I don't think its the same at all. We used to have Comcast'* fastest package and things would take years compared to what can be done now. I just uploaded a 1 gig file to my server at an average of 1550 kb/* That may not be the 20 mbps that we pay for, but hell...lets see any other residential company push average speeds like that.

How can they use the same equipment? This is FTTP? How is that the same?

And PLEASE do not bring up hacked modems. We could all hack our modems and get high speeds. You can get into some deep **** for that.
