Default 2001 Chrysler 300M

Well, looking for a new car for Mom and came up with a 2001 Chrysler 300M. It looks pretty good. Just wondering what everyone thought? Goin to look at it this weekend. It looks like I could talk them down a little too. Well tell me what you think!

300M Special > 300M.

Seriously.

I never heard bad things about that car. Looks great and pretty peppy at that. Many prefer that over the 300 that replaced it.

Truth.

Ya, brilliant looking car. Almost traded the Aurora in for one a few years back.

300M Special is a kickass car, but the one he linked only has 19k miles, which is DAMNED low for a 7 year old car.
One thing I'd suggest getting factored into the sale price.... NEW tires. The ones that are on it are probably the originals and although they may have good tread, they are probably going to have plies seperate, or have flat spots from sitting (obviously the car has done a lot of it).

Trust me, if it was a special I would already have bought it! But with these low miles I just can not pass it up. I have been looking for Bonnevilles, but they are either too expensive or too many miles. I also agree, I hate the 300. It looks like they had Volvo styling for them. Ok i'll see about the tires, they would not stay long no matter what. Never liked Michelin tires, so I would be throwing the same Bridgestones on it as the Bonny.

The 300M was on my short list before I bought the Bonneville. I drove a couple and really liked it. After researching on the 300M board I did find a couple major issues that you'll want to be aware of: One, the timing belt has to be replaced around 100K miles. This has to be done or it will have catastrophic consequences to the engine if it goes on you. If you have to have it done at a shop it will cost upwards of a grand to have done. The second one which didn't seem so common, but still made me wary is that the A/C evaporator has a tendency to go on them, and that also can cost a grand to fix because the entire dash must be torn apart to fix it.

I've always loved em. My friend has one with 159K and has had minimal issues with it.

If you buy it, make sure you do a trans fluid and filter change right away, and do regular changes every 15k miles. And make DARN sure that the CORRECT fluid is used, no Dexron/Mercron or "compatible" fluid, just the real Mopar stuff.
There are also occasional issues with water in the trunk, that'* almost always a bad trunk weatherstrip. Usually, it'* because one of the ends is starting to peel away, leaving a gap.

personally, I hate them. I drove one for a week and it was...well...not my type of car. the transmission was so SLOW to shift, comfort was...meh. and etc etc

I know a few people who have gotten them and ended up hating them and have heard most the people who DO own them, end up not liking them.
