Cars make us irrational. We call them our babies and lovingly wax them every Saturday -- or we turn up the radio to drown out the sound of a dragging muffler. Either mindset will cost you money, sometimes a lot of it.

I'd spend less on car washes and do more myself if A

It wouldn't get all slushed up the instant it hit the street again when it does go anywhere above freezing. I wish I could stick to my summer home wash schedule all winter long. My black car looks white right now its so dirty....

I spend about $200 annually on car washes each year.
I change my oil every 3000 miles.
I change my plugs and wires once a year.
I replace parts that dont need to be replaced so I dont break down on the road somewhere.
guess what?
I've never once been stranded before in any of the cars I've owned.
