my bro has a olds regency and on the engine it says tuned port injection does that mean it has a series 1 in it?

No. Series 1 started in 1992 with the L27 and L67.

back on track, the 3800 found in an 89 is the LN3, 165HP 220TQ

I dunno man, I'm gonna disagree with yer disagreement, my 1989 Bonneville is still running like a champ. Paul cant say enough good things about that engine. Its going on 16 years now...no engine issues whatsoever, heater core issues now, but even when I had it, the only engine problem was the FPR and the timing chain cam sprocket.

Damn good engine, probably the best we'll see in a LONG time.
