16 year old gets nailed for 142mph in Valparaiso, Indiana

Check out this video on http://www.myfoxchicago.com/myfox/pa...Y&pageId=1.1.1

This was on the news lastnight. Some dumb-arce 16 year old kid got busted doing 142mph in a 55mph zone on RT. 30. This is about 10 minutes from my house

BLACK94SSEi 12-13-2006 12:17 PM

Thats what happens when Car makers put Porsche engines in small compacts

the most ive gone in the Bonne is 100 MPH which was enough to get me to back off the pedal. Kids these days :?

Slimpee 12-13-2006 12:31 PM

Idiot. Although I can't say that I didn't see 100+ when I was 18 and19

toastedoats 12-13-2006 12:35 PM

atleast he was doing it in the middle of the night when there was likely no one else on the road

94SabreCus 12-13-2006 12:39 PM

AAAHHH stupidity... I cant say i dont have those moments but 142mph!!! The closest I have ever gotten to that is 125 in my moms Maxima

tallbump 12-13-2006 12:45 PM

Two things...
First off, I want a WRX
Secondly, he should fight the wreckless driving charge. There was a Judge in New York State I think it was who threw out a wreckless driving charge against a guy on a crotch rocket for doing over 100 mph. The Judge said fast doesn't necessarily mean wreckless. Cool Judge, huh?

Won't happen here in Indiana. They are gonna nail that kid big-time

not really. 100+ is reckless unless youre in nascar or a similar racing league. throwing out a reckless charge (when deserved) is, in itself, reckless.

crucify him. 142 is reckless. if he hadnt got pulled over he might be facing manslaughter instead.

tallbump 12-13-2006 01:04 PM

Found an article about it ...it was in Nebraska
http://www.northcountrygazette.org/a...tReckless.html

Slimpee 12-13-2006 01:10 PM

If it was Jeff Gordon driving at night w/ no passengers and no other cars, OK, I wouldn't give reckless driving because he's a trained professional. But a 16 yr-old-kid is (most likely) not a trained professional therefore he should receive reckless driving.

And who are those parents to be surprised that their 16 yr-old son speeds in a WRX?!?

MNwonderboy 12-13-2006 01:10 PM

what kinda of (explitive deleted for reader enjoyment) idiot would drive like that, ITS PEOPLE LIKE HIM THAT MAKE MY INSURANCE SO HIGH !!!! :flame:

Custom88 12-13-2006 01:45 PM

The kid made a big mistake, that's for sure. But, just keep this in mind before completely bashing him and calling him an idiot, there are plenty of members on THIS site even who have seen triple digit speeds, some even over 140 MPH. You would be amazed by the number of people who have done this, THEY just didn't get caught. Keep that in mind.

ditto.....

FWIW top of my 3rd gear is 137.... 8)

Pearl_bonnie02 12-13-2006 02:14 PM

It's one thing to speed. But that's rediculous. I'm not sure what time he got busted, but on RT. 30 at 1am there is still quite a bit of traffic. All the semi trucks take it at night b/c the highway is jacked up around here due to construction. I myself have had my car to 105mph, but not on a road that is a US Highway that is filled with stoplights and semi's.

Yeah, there is one roughly every mile-2 miles along a good portion of it

This is US. RT 30 during the day obviously

Cheetah 12-13-2006 03:46 PM

If you going to do it, do it in the middle of nowhere. Even if it was at night, that road still looks busy 24/7. I do my runs on a 2 lane with a wheat field on each side

SSE14U24ME 12-13-2006 04:06 PM

That kind of driving especially when you are young and inexperienced is nothing but suicide.

Jeff's (94SSEgold) dad was killed driving a firebird in excess of 140 mph at night and over drove his headlights, didn't negotiate a slight curve and wrecked and was thrown from the car through the t-tops.

fantastic88 12-13-2006 04:11 PM

Speeding at night is stupid period. You can't see that far and overrun you're headlights. Not only that but you can't see cops hiding.

leftd90 12-13-2006 04:16 PM

Who buys a 16 year old that car... I mean come now... should have gotten him at 89 ford escort stationwagon, kept me from going 60mph at least. lol

asonofabeach69 12-13-2006 04:23 PM

Ive seen 142 unleashed out of my own foot on the pedal  Not in the bonne though, Id say Ive touched just over 130 in the bonne on the Garden State Parkway.

If this kid was in Jerzey they'd probably drop it all to unsafe operation and the cop would have also written him for a Provisional drivers license violation. Pay probably 750 dollars in fines and have 2 points. (if he doesnt have any other serious violation)...and anybody here in jerzey knows exactly what im talking about. The courts here will keep you driving if they know they can make alot of $$$ off of you!

Who says the parents bought it? It's fairly probable that they did, but it is possible that the kid has been saving up and working a job to get this car. Parents probably didn't mind the choice of car because, honestly, if you aren't that familiar with cars, a WRX doesn't look that menacing.

Not defending his actions, just looking at all sides.
Part of his punishment should be a ride along with paramedics that are dispatched to highway accidents to see what the consequences are.

wjcollier07 12-13-2006 10:03 PM

About the fastest I've gone is 110 since thats about all my car will allow. And that was on a road with NO CARS around. I can't possibly imagine going that fast on a public road safely ESPCIALLY with other cars around. That is just totally unsafe. I hope he really does get punished.

charliemax 12-13-2006 10:42 PM

"Son, ah bin waitin' for someone like you to make an example of."

"Well officer, I got here as fast as i could."

1) The kid is going to get a bunch of notoriety. Not exactly what responsible adults, like Good Morning America, should do.

2) His parents who are freaked for about 6 or 7 good parental reasons, are going to get roasted like it was their fault.

3) The price of used WRXs just went up another grand.

And yes, if somebody did this in NJ on the Turnpike or the Garden State Parkway they would get pulled over for failing to yield to passing vehicles.

crzydmnd72 12-13-2006 11:01 PM

142 mph is not driving, thats preparing for LIFTOFF!

GoldenBullet 12-13-2006 11:19 PM

that kids an idiot

i wish my car could go 142 mph :D

BonneMeMN 12-14-2006 12:54 AM

The kid was dumb, he wanted to make his curfew, but instead go pulled over.

140 by ANYONE is reckless on the street. Surfaces can have obstacles on them, sand, etc that weren't there last time you were there, street cars aren't designed for 140 continuous operation, well not anything US or japanese....

I'm surprised it isn't a felony where he was.

Frankly any parent who lets their 16 year old drive a WRX/STi (who hasn't been to track days and what not already) is an idiot as well. A normal WRX on it's own is still pretty high strung for a new driver. AWD of these cars gives a false sense of security.

That's a LeMans racer that's street legalized...

Obviously things such as some hi-po german cars are built to fly on the autobahn, and some sports cars, and supercars.

Fun..

Oh yes.

But on those roads, it's suicidal, endangering others, etc..

Hans 12-14-2006 03:28 AM

in traffic...thats f* up.

I can understand it on a lonesome highway in the middle of idaho but not in the city.

ReallyAGXP 12-14-2006 08:07 AM

i wont deny it i have done it.. done a little more then 142mph its not something i do all the time once and a blue moon. the way i see it if i do it once then i know what my car will do i dont need to do it again till i buy a new car !

but at 16 thats ridiculous i dont care you dont have the experience to drive that fast.

tallbump 12-14-2006 09:02 AM

I guess I need to clarify my stand. I certainly agree that he NEVER should have been doing that, especilly after seeing the pics of what that area is like.
I guess I was coming frm a legal standpoint, referring to the article I posted. I guess that's why I work in the legal field.
I also agree that he never should have been driving that type of car at his age, unless he has some serious racing experience, even then he isn't wise enough to realise the difference between a track and a public street.
I think his best punishment would be to take his car away......

and give it to me

Sinister 12-15-2006 04:55 PM

Well.. when I was 16 I had a quick car with long gears, and one night a Mustang decided he wanted to kill a ricer and I wasnt about to let him.... lets just say I did around what that kid did. But, two lane highway with a divider and basically me by myself after a while...

Was I stupid? Very. Should I have had my car/license taken away? Yes. Something happened after I did that though; never went nearly that fast again.

I hope this kid has learned his lesson.

Bonneville92V688 12-15-2006 05:09 PM

Hey I was stupid one time, I was driving with my dad out in the middle of nowhere in western Ohio, and i asked my dad, "How fast do you think this thing can go?" (It was a 2002 Kia Optima LX V6), so he told me to floor it so I did, pulled fairly quickly all the way to 144 when it hit the fuel cutoff.

Yes it was very stupid, and I knew I shouldn't have done it.
