Gotta love the India tech support. I called DirecTv once and ended up talking to India. I asked her how the weather was. She said couldn't answer that. I said why, and she said they were not allowed to talk about the local area, or where they were at. Oh well, so much for customer service.

Not to rain on your rant, but the CS center I work at has the same sort of rule. The reason isn't to hide our location. It'* to save time. The phrase "Time is money" definitely applies to this situation. The more we can stick to the issue at hand, the quicker we can resolve it, and the quicker we can move on the the next call. The more calls the center gets through in a given amount of time, the more money the company makes.

As nice as it would be at times, we can't just hang out and chit chat with callers. We got more calls waiting, and we have a contract with the company we are supporting that states how long customers will be stuck on hold. Plus, as much as everyone hates waiting for their call to be answered, those of us answering the calls hate even more starting a call with a ticked off customer because they were on hols so long because the last caller wanted to chat about the weather....

Must have been a new chick I was talking too. Her english was very rough. Yet, I have talked to other "Indians" and they were pretty good.
