Purchasing a 2001 SSEi???
I've been a proud owner of 2 Bonnevilles in the past, a 95 and 97. Since then I've been had 3 Volvo'* (ouch$$). Anyways, I'm looking at trading two of the Volvos in for a 2001 SSEI with 74,000 miles. I realize this is a high mileage car to some, but I've driven the other Bonnevilles close to the 200K range as well as the Volvos. My question is what to look out for before purchasing this 2001 SSEi from a dealer. Reliability, true cost of repairs, etc. Any imput would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm not overly familiar with the Y2K-newer, but don't let the mileage fool you (obviously it isn't either). I have the identical motor in my 1999. The motor and SC have 160,750 miles on them and the purr like a kitten (a little lifter tick, but I had 2 different GM tech'* listen to it today and they said that it didn't warrant repairing -all 3800'* do it and they said that with 160k they'd expect it to be alot worse).
Otherwise the tranny is about the only trouble spot. Mine was rebuilt 7k before I bought it (was rebuilt @ 135k), and 1 week after I bought the car the trans went out again (tranny shops fault) @ 142k.
Otherwise I've done some modding and everything is running excellent and way above my expectations.
Best of luck and if you get it you won't regret it.
