Far as I can tell, its a purple wire with a white stripe at the distributor.

thanks 2kg4u but it is a distributorless system. was hoping i could tap into wiring harness as some of these cars have tach installed.

jwfirebird has a reputation beyond repute

autozone and that dont have interior diagrams for cars that old, unfortunately. just out of curiosity what does the tach wire have anything to do with inspection?

the original issue was idle speed was over specs and they refused to test. after making repairs i wanted to check idle speed before taking it back in.
