Cool New owner of 2001 SLE

Hi there. I'm the new owner of a 2001 SLE Bonneville since last weekend. I had a 2004 Bonneville before that and it got totaled last month in an accident . I have to say that I love the 2001 SLE so much more than the 2004 SE because of all the bells and whistles it has (moonroof, DIC, heated seats etc.).
However, there are two minor issues I found with the car so far: the heated seat on the driver'* side doesn't work (light comes on for a few seconds and then turns off) and part of the radio display is not illuminated. I already searched a lot on this forum on how to fix these, and can't wait to try them. I love this forum so far with so much information.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your old car being totaled, but hopefully the new one will last for a long time.

How did you sneak by me? LOL. Well Welcome to the Club and hope you enjoy it. The radio is going to be a PITA. It is illuminated with LED'* individually soldered.

Thanks. I will try to see if I can fix the heated seat first since I'm in Idaho here and winter is already starting There are a number of buttons on the side that I have to remove before the leather can come off the seat. Can I pry them out easily? I am afraid to break anything.
I will try to do the fix that I found in this forum first:
https://www.gmforum.com/t270249/
but if I do need the heated seat service kit, do you know where I can get it and what part number?
Thanks

It would be a dealer item, or perhaps GM Direct online. Have no idea on the part number. A call to a dealer service dept would get it for ya.

Default Heated seat repair

Well I investigated under the seat and lifted the leather off yesteryday. I had an ohmmeter to look for open circuits at all the connectors leading to the seat. There was actually two open filament circuits. The first one was in front with no burnt mark, and the second one was deep towards the back of the seat and there was burnt marks. I fixed both of them by connecting the two ends of the broken wire with a piece of electrical wire and soldering the connections. The heated seat now works finally
I still don't know exactly why the back one was burnt, but I hope it works for a while. I'll just use it to get the seat warm and turn if off once it'* warm.
