Default New Member, Searching for a Bonneville GXP maybe.......

Hey all,

My wife and I have started a search for a family car, and being the GM and more specifically Pontiac guy at heart, the Bonneville GXP has caught our eye. We actually went and took a 05 for a test drive yesterday and we both were VERY pleasantly surprised by it. Our only concern is the fuel economy. We were thinking of looking at the 05 SLE'* (we LOVE the exterior of the GXP and nothing less will do) but feel that it'* going to be too sluggish given the lack of power. The fit and finish was admirable given the relatively old design on the inside and the typical GM assembly. The ride was great, and the space was just amazing (we're planning on starting a family next year and this is what we're looking at Bonneville'* for).

I'd like to get some opinions on one we're looking at. In a nutshell, it'* a Greystone 04 w/64K miles for $12,987.........here'* the LINK[. The big problem here is that we live just outside of St. Louis and it'* in MA, but were in contact with the dealership andhopefully going to get a good set of pictures next week.

Any words of advice for us??? Thanks for everyone'* time......

if you're worried about lack of power, you might want to go with the SSEi, as that'* far more upgradeable performance-wise, and you can't beat the 3800 Series II.

Not to mention, if you're concerned with gas mileage, you definitely want to go with an SSEi. I've heard people get around 30 mpg on the highway with them, and I believe that WillWren, one of our admins, got 32 mpg in a much earlier model.

They're also quite a bit faster, moddable and comfortable. That'* all my opinion, though. I'm sure others will have a say in it.

Oh, btw, welcome!

:edit:
I believe that'* the lowest price I've ever heard of for a GXP

SSEI is out of the question. Reason being? I am a gearhead. If it can be modded........I will end up modding it. Fortunately for me, the aftermarket for the GXP isn't huge, and a K&N filter is about the extent that I'm aware of right now (give me time and I'll fab up some headers for kicks). Proof? See sig. That, and the earlier styling doesn't appeal to us. It'* the GXP styling or nothing. Which leaves us open to the 05 SLE model, but she'* afraid of sluggishness and wants the heads up display. That, and the resale on those seems to be much better as there'* not many that are down near 15K.

We're EXTREMELY close to pulling the trigger on the one in Mass. I spoke with the internet guy from the dealership for about 30 minutes today, and the car sounds like it'* in great shape. The only things I'm being told that is wrong is there is some kind of scratch on the front right wheel, the brakes are fairly short on life, and the front tires are at 2/32 tread depth. I'm going to be getting close up pics of the scratched wheel, and am going to try to talk them into tires and a brake job considering the length we're going to travel to get the car.

but.....there may be a deal stopper. Apparently Massachusetts doesn't give Temp tags, and we will be registering the car in PA. It will be extremely difficult to find the time to go to Mass, pay for the car, drive to PA and get the temp tag, then drive back to Mass to pick it up. May be a good thing though as I personally am goign to have to make a big sacrifice to get the car, that being diverting my incoming funds for finishing up my stroker/supercharger setup for my 93 Trans Am to another loan to free up the monthly payment money for the GXP. Not something I want to do, but we really do need a good driver and family car, and it wouldn't be an indefinite stop to my T/A project, just a big slow down.

I may take you up on one or both of those offers all things considered.

What do you guys think of the pricing?? I know it'* the cheapest one I've seen (the linked on) and when I asked the guy I was talking to, he said it'* because they're a small volume dealership and they do that to move inventory. I figure at the least if we don't like it after a short time we could flip it for a profit.

good pricing, but idk id point out,

64k miles, and its down to 2/32 of tread.. have them change the tires, 2/32 tread is illegal to drive on in some states, tell them you don't want a ticket.

check the engine and trans.

i made the mistake of not checking out the trans when i got my 03 ssei..
and it turned out to be worn down pretty bad, but i brought it back to the dealer a week after purchase, yelled a little, and they replaced it no problem.
