what state is it in? there are states were insurance is optional. i just got classic for mine because here in NY it has to be at least 25, so an 88 would be good this year, but you still have to provide proof of other driver, locked garage, etc

Insurance

Hi jwfirebird,

Its in Wisconsin. I do seem to have a problem with insurance. I guess its because I don't live in the U.S.

In August my wagon will be 26 years old.

I do now have a U.S. driving licence although they only allowed it to remain valid for as long as my visa (3 months) so it ended last month.

I've been advised that as I use the wagon as my sole method of transport when in the U.S. it can't be put on a Classic Car policy as those are only for those driven to shows or car club meetings. I drive it to the grocery store, shopping, sight seeing, etc. Access to another car is I think an issue which I don't have.

My frustration is I only drive it three weeks a year if that. Otherwise its covered and locked away in a garage.

Also, my current policy doesn't have an agreed value so if the wagon is destroyed or damaged chances are the insurance company will write it off.

Lastly, I also pay around $ 1,000.00 a year for the policy which I think is expensive.

Can you recommend any nationwide insurance broker or policy?

Cheers.

my agreed value policy is through grundy worldwide and they have no mileage requirements and if you go on a road trip with it you are still covered. like i said though they made me send in pics of the garage and proof of other cars for both myself and my wife. 1000 seems real high though. i dont think i pay that for all 4 of my cars and our bonnie and monte have full coverage. the others are through new york central mutual. you know anyone in Tennessee or any place that doesnt require insurance? all you need is an address there to forward you the mail, if you do get insurance those places are alot cheaper.

Ah thanks, No I don't have friends in those states.

I think the stumbling block is I don't have another car to drive when I am in the U.S.

My Oldsmobile is my ONLY car and it doesn't appear to matter to the insurance company that its only driven for 3 weeks a year.
