Default New 94 SE owner from Massachusetts

How'* it going. Found this forum and decided to join up. My name is Ronnie and I'm from Westfield, MA which is western Massachusetts near Springfield.

I've got a 94 Bonneville SE, that I got for basically free a few months back as a temporary "beater" while I build up my 96 Talon TSi. It has 99,6xx miles, is white, and looks like crap due to paint falling off and some rattle-can fixs from the previous owner.

Well, winter is coming very shortly, and I've been having quite a few issues with my bonneville so I'm at a crossroads of whether or not I want to sell/junk it and try to find a new cheap beater or if I want to fix it up and continue using it as a daily.

-First and foremost the thing gets terrible gas mileage, I haven't calculated it, but I'd guess single digits, mainly on highway, bringing me to my next issue:

-Half the time my overdrive works, the other half it doesn't. If I get on the highway sometimes it drops into OD, and if it doesn't I have to pull over, shut the car off, turn it back on and get back to speed. This doesn't work 100% of the time, but most of the time. If I drive with OD off on the highway, the MPG seriously has to be single digits.

-The first two weeks I owned it, it started up right away, every time. Then, out of nowhere and up until today, it generally won't start unless I give it gas to start. It'* always fine driving, just starting can be a PITA.

-The motor is tired, it burns oil and has ticking upon first/cold start up. It feels decently quick, although I don't know what an SE feels like in its "prime".

-The transmission is equally tired if not worse. When cold if I go anywhere near a decent throttle, the car will jerk, as if somethings getting caught in the transmission. Any time I take any high-throttle left hand turn, the trans slips badly, right turns are fine?

I guess, at this point I can buy another ~$500 beater, or I can get a supercharged motor w/ charger for $600. Unsure what I want to do. I could also get a non charged motor for $100 less.

the villa would be BillBoost37'* house. Many many bonnevilles have been modded/fixed/saved and parted at his house. It'* also the central location for meeting in the NE area. Always watch for meets there.

And welcome.
