I am so glad to have found this forum... I love to do my owm work... It'* nice to know that the job'* done right... I have been burned before.... But when I get into the work, sometimes I don't know where to go for information... Vehicles are getting very complex and need more and more speciality tools to complete the work... It'* getting expensive if you try to keep up with the GM Techs!!

there is alot more that you can do to your own car than most think. you just have to look for the info. this is a good site for that for sure.

My dad raised me to work on cars and trucks, he worked on his own. He wanted a boy for his first kid but he made do... Needless to say when my friends were playing barbie, I was learning fractions in order to "go fer" wenches and sockets. That experience has made me confident about working on my own cars/trucks... Had 2 fords, only 1 was any good... Never had a bad gm, so I rightfully have been a gm nut since I was about 13...
First car was a volkswagon dasher.... BAD first car and I mean bad in a bad way... too many quirks in that one... Like the wipers only worked on sunny days... the radio worked on occasion, usually not often... and the carb float was a plastic piece of ****! It was diffently a learning experience...
I am always learning about my vehicles and I love it! Just can't keep up or afford some of the newer ones with all the "bells and whistles"...
Thanks for all th help you guys have given me and I hope to be able to help some soon...

me too, my parents really didnt make enough to take the cars to anyone so sometimes you have no choice but to figure it out own your own. after a while though you figure things out and that you can do 95% of the things on your own if your willing to put in the work. now im fortunate enough that i could send my car to the shop but its a better feeling just to fix it your self. it costs alot less to buy the scanner tools than to take it to the stealer in the long run and they dont know as much as people think, they just go by "troubleshooting flowcharts"
