Hello from Northfield, Minnesota
What an informative site. My father was a mechanic for over 50 years and I'm sure he would have benefited from a forum like this.
Just want to say thank you to all of the people that have contributed information to this site. It'* been a big benefit to all and fun to read too!

Sorry- Car info
Forgot to put in my car information. Just bought a 1999 Bonneville SLE for my 16 year old son. Bought the car in Fort Myers Fl. The car has 73,000 mile on it, runs and looks like new, the previous owner took good care of the car. After reading many of the posts here I think I'll strongly consider changing the lower and upper intake gaskets.

Welcome to BC!
Glad you like what you see. You will most definitely want to check out those gaskets and will likely want to replace them. Is that SLE supercharged? Because I wasn't aware of any '99 SLEs that were supercharged from GM.
If it isn't, you will want to do more than change the UIM gasket. You will want to check the manufacture date on the UIM to get an idea if it has been replaced recently or not. If not, then you should do some reading in TECHINFO regarding the care and replacement of that UIM.

Welcome to the club. I'm a recent member and have found this to be a fabulous forum. I'm just up 35W from you in Burnsville. Regarding the UIM and LIM problems, there is no way of knowing if and when they will go. Reading here you'll discover that they will cause a problem at some time or another. My son'* 1996 Bonne didn't have a problem until it had 139,000. It was fixed with the OEM UIM about four years ago. He has since put about 70,000 more miles on it and no sign of problems. I just bought a 1999 SSE with 106,000 on it, and found out that it had the UIM replaced when it had just 36,000 miles on it!! After reading about all the problems with the OEM UIM, I was tempted to do a preventive switch, but my temperature never gets to the 200 mark, the coolant level has not dropped a bit, and it runs beautifully. I will probably purchase the AP UIM and have it on hand, but I don't drive the car that much and may go for a long time without a problem. I have some pics of my car in the "Your Ride" section of this forum.
