Hello all!
New here, not new to Bonnevilles. I have had 2 1988 SE'*, a 1989 SSE. My last Bonne was a 1992 SSEi, green with green wheels and peanut butter interior. Drove it for 2 years, but the body was too rusted and it had too many problems to fix, so i sold it.
My latest purchase is a 2002 79,000mi SSEi, silver with chrome wheels. I've only had it for 6 months and blew the motor! So, it'* currently in the shop gettin another motor put in. I had an intake gasket leak and didn't know it. Heard the engine knocking, drove it like that for a week not knowing what the knocking was coming from, so at the end of that week, i had the oil changed and put full synthetic in there and the knocking went away. They told me i was really low on coolant, so i said i must have a leak somewhere. I looked under the car every day, smelled around the motor and couldn't really tell that it was leaking, but i was still filling up the over-flow bottle every day. One day i finally got a strong smell of anti-freeze coming from the back of the motor, burning off the exhaust. Took it to a mechanic who told me it was the intake gasket. Had it replaced, but the damage to the motor from the anti-freeze mixing with the oil had already been done. Two weeks later, i spun my number 4 bearing and that was it for that motor.
The motor that'* going in now has 10,000 less miles than mine. Probably have to do the intake gasket yet again in another 10,000 miles, but at least i know what to look and listen for now.
